With packed stands, constant applause, and a vibrant atmosphere, Porto Santo crowned the new European beach handball club champions. Denmark’s Aarhus Beach and Spain’s Club Handbol Xábia both making their debut in the competition emerged as the stars of an edition defined by excitement and spectacular action, both on and off the sand.
Organized for the fifth consecutive year by the European Handball Federation (EHF), the Portuguese Handball Federation (FAP), and the Madeira Handball Association (AAM), the EHF Beach Handball Champions Cup once again turned the golden sands into a gathering place for the very best in European beach handball.
On the final day, when all the titles were decided, neither rain nor wind could dampen the enthusiasm. From the semi-finals to the finals, the event featured intense matchups, top-tier saves, and moments of high drama that kept the crowd captivated until the very end.
In the men’s competition, Aarhus Beach claimed the title by defeating the German side 12 Monkeys Köln BHC 2–1, in a final where the tension lasted all the way to the shoot-outs. With goalkeepers playing a decisive role, the Danish team found the right answers during the most high-pressure moments to secure the coveted European trophy.
The first period went to the Nordic side, bolstered by an inspired performance from goalkeeper Andreas Søndergaard Høgh, as they won 27–22. The second period remained closely contested until the final two minutes, when the Germans’ superior efficiency allowed them to close out the period 25–20, forcing the match into a shoot-out. In the decider, Aarhus Beach once again relied on crucial saves from their goalkeepers; a 9–6 victory in the shoot-out sparked their title celebrations.
The battle for the men’s bronze medal featured an all-Portuguese clash between GRD Leça-Spar and Nazaré BHT—a rematch of the 2025 finalists. This time, GRD Leça-Spar got the better of the reigning champions, Nazaré BHT. After losing the first period 14–22, the Leça side won the second 21–20 and went on to secure the bronze medal by winning the shoot-out 6–4.
In the women’s competition, Club Handbol Xábia made their debut in the tournament an unforgettable one. In an all-Spanish final, the newcomers challenged the defending champions, Fundación Fomento y Deporte CBMP Ciudad de Málaga, and secured a 2-0 victory—a triumph that now holds a special place in the club’s history.
The first set was closely contested, but Xábia managed to pull ahead, winning 20-16. In the second set, Paula Quiles Vera shone between the posts, providing stability to her team, which dominated with a decisive 22-10 score to clinch the European title.
In the battle for third place, the Portuguese side GRD Leça-Love Tiles—runners-up in 2025—fell just short of the podium. Hungary’s Red Velvet BHC-Bomba won 2-0, with set scores of 22-16 and 24-22, to secure the bronze medal.
And so, Porto Santo bids farewell to another edition of the tournament, one filled with excitement, new champions, memorable moments, and a crowd that made their support felt right up until the final whistle.
